The cost is that the purely hard-nosed may find you a touch soft, and the purely tender-hearted a touch cool — you keep one hand on the logic and one on the people, which is a harder balance than either extreme and a more useful one.

You read the emotional current in a room instinctively and steer by it, prioritising harmony and connection over winning the argument. This makes you warm, diplomatic, and easy to be around — the person who smooths what a blunter type would break. The trade-off is that hard calls can get put off, and a strong pull toward keeping everyone comfortable can leave the necessary difficult conversation unhad. Sometimes the kindest thing is the direct one; naming the problem plainly, when it matters, is the skill worth borrowing from your opposite.
