The Underwriter
You price the downside before anyone thinks to ask.
All three domains read low: the career, the money and the standing are each being protected rather than staked. The name is deliberate — an underwriter is not someone who fears risk, but the professional whose whole job is knowing what it costs. That is your actual skill here, and it is rarer than nerve: you are usually the only person in the room who has worked out what happens if this doesn't come off, and groups that lack someone like you find out the hard way. The cost is specific and worth naming. Opportunities that require moving before the guarantee arrives will pass you by, and they rarely announce themselves as missed. Worth checking occasionally: whether a given no is still «I can't afford to» or has quietly become «I'd rather not» — the two feel identical from the inside and are not the same thing.
