Audio Reflex
How fast can you react to sound?
Five rounds. Wait for the beep, then tap as fast as you can. Tap before the sound and the round resets. Your score is the median of all rounds — single flukes don't count. Headphones recommended; sound must be on.
Take the testFrequently asked
How long does this test take?
Under a minute. Five rounds; you tap as fast as you can the instant you hear the beep.
Do I need headphones?
They're recommended — headphones give the cleanest, most consistent cue and the fairest score. Speakers work too; just turn the volume up and use the pre-test sound check. On silent? This test won't work without sound.
Is audio reaction faster than visual?
Usually yes. Sound reaches the brain a little faster than light is processed, so auditory reaction averages around 140-160 ms for adults — roughly 30-40 ms quicker than visual. That's why the tiers here are tighter than our visual Reaction Time test.
How does the leaderboard work?
Your median reaction across 5 rounds is recorded on a leaderboard separate from the visual test. The weekly board resets every Monday (UTC); the all-time board never resets. Impossible values and too-perfect timing are auto-rejected.
