Frequently asked

How long does this quiz take?

About 2-3 minutes. Eight short questions, answer with your gut.

What is a 'default mode'?

It's where your mind goes when you're not focused on a task — in the shower, walking, lying awake. Researchers call the brain network active during this 'mind wandering' the default mode network. This test sorts the flavour of your wandering into six everyday types.

Where does the idea come from?

It's inspired by research on mind-wandering and the default mode network (Marcus Raichle 2001; Smallwood & Schooler). We don't use any clinical instrument — we wrote our own questions and the six everyday types in our own voice.

I got The Inner Critic. Should I worry?

No. A self-evaluating default mode is extremely common and often comes with high standards and self-awareness. This is a playful self-reflection test, not a mental-health screening. If self-critical thoughts feel heavy or constant, a conversation with a professional is worth more than any quiz.

Are my answers stored?

Only if you finish — we save the result so you get a shareable link. We don't collect personal info; the test is fully anonymous.
