The Editor
You see what's wrong with it faster than you see what's wrong with yours.
Your standards point outward: you notice what's sloppy, unfinished or nearly-right in other people's work, and you're markedly easier on your own. The name is the fair reading, and it is a real job — someone has to be the person who says this isn't ready, and teams without one ship things they regret. Your eye is genuinely good, and being unbothered by the pressure you apply is what lets you apply it calmly instead of anxiously. The exposure is the asymmetry itself, which is far more visible from outside than from inside. People notice when the person raising the bar isn't standing under it, and once that's been noticed the same accurate criticism starts landing as something else entirely. The cheapest fix isn't lowering the bar — it's being seen to be under it, occasionally and in public.
